ECO-CONSCIOUS DYES

It is vital to me that my creations have as minimal an impact on the environment as possible, and are as safe as possible for people to wear.

Luna e Stelle clothing is hand-dyed using nontoxic, non-carcinogenic, biodegradable, eco-conscious Procion fiber reactive dyes that are permanent, and will not bleed or fade with proper care, even after repeated washings.

Fiber reactive dyes are referred to as low impact, as they bond directly with the molecules in the fabric fibers, so nothing washes out once they are dyed. The dye molecule becomes an actual part of the fiber molecule and nothing will take it off except bleach or other discharging chemicals. And, they contain no heavy metals. For these reasons they are the dye of choice for baby clothing and chemically sensitive people, since they are very permanent and non-toxic.

The waste water from the dyeing process is broken down into a harmless state by microbes in the soil or waste water treatment plants. And, the chemical used to bond the dyes to the fabric fibers is soda ash, which is non-toxic, and used in laundry detergents and swimming pools.
